Dr. Zarrabi

Dr. Alireza Zarrabi is an internal medicine physician with expertise in acute and primary care. He is dedicated to educating his patients about their medical conditions and developing personalized care plans that integrate evidence-based medicine with holistic approaches. Dr. Zarrabi is widely known for his compassionate and thoughtful bedside manner, which fosters trust and comfort among his patients.

Dr. Zarrabi earned his medical degree from Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Tehran, Iran, in 1995. He completed his residency in internal medicine at MedStar Harbor Hospital in Baltimore. During his post-doctoral fellowship in cardiovascular imaging at the Texas Heart Institute and the University of Texas in Houston, Dr. Zarrabi published groundbreaking research on novel diagnostic techniques for identifying unstable atherosclerotic plaques, which was featured in prestigious medical journals and presented at numerous international conferences.

In 2011, recognizing a critical need for better communication between physicians, Dr. Zarrabi developed the Zarrabi Electronic Sign-Out Tool (ZEST), an innovative electronic sign-out system designed to improve the accuracy of information transfer, responsibility, and authority between doctors.
Dr. Zarrabi’s exceptional service has earned him multiple accolades. He was honored with the Director’s Award for best performance among all house staff during his tenure as Chief Resident at MedStar Harbor Hospital. He has also been recognized as a “Top Doctor” by Baltimore Magazine in 2015, 2016, 2023 and 2024. His high patient satisfaction ratings in both acute care and primary care settings consistently rank among the best in his field. Additionally, he has been acknowledged as a top provider by Medicare, Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare and Kaiser Permanente. For example, Dr. Zarrabi ranks in the top 25% for many of his services according to the Provider Ranking System.

Dr. Zarrabi’s leadership extends beyond patient care. He served as co-chair of the Chief Residents Association of Baltimore (CRAB) under the American College of Physicians and directed a pioneering workshop on "Clinical Telecommunications/Telemedicine" for chief residents in 2012. This marked the first time such a workshop was held in the history of the National Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine (NAPDIM). He has also served as the Lead Physician for telemedicine services at Kaiser Permanente in Baltimore.
