About Dr. Alireza Zarrabi
Dr. Alireza Zarrabi is an internal medicine doctor, specializing in the fields of acute and primary care. He focuses on educating patients about their medical conditions and creates a plan of care for them that integrates evidence-based medicine and holistic approaches. He is known for his compassionate and thoughtful bedside manner.
Dr. Zarrabi received his medical degree from Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Tehran, Iran in 1995. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Medstar Harbor Hospital in Baltimore. During his post-doctoral fellowship in cardiovascular imaging at Texas Heart Institute and University of Texas in Houston, he published his research on novel diagnostic techniques to identify unstable atherosclerotic plaques in prestigious medical journals and presented his findings at multiple international conferences.
In 2011, Dr. Zarrabi saw the need for a proper sign-out system between doctors in a hospital. He developed an electronic sign-out tool (ZEST: Zarrabi Electronic Sign-Out Tool) to assist with the accurate transfer of information, responsibility, and authority from one physician to another.
Other accomplishments include serving as the co-chair for the Chief Residents Association of Baltimore “CRAB” (under the American College of Physicians). He also directed a workshop in Atlanta on “Clinical Telecommunications/Telemedicine” for chief residents as an incoming chief in 2012 for the first time in the history of the NAPDIM (National Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine). Dr. Zarrabi served as the Lead Physician for telemedicine services in the Baltimore area at Kaiser Permanente.
Dr. Zarrabi has been recognized for his high level of service on numerous occasions. He received the Director’s Award for the best performance among all house staff during his time serving as Chief Resident at MedStar Harbor Hospital. He was also recognized as “Top Doctor” by Baltimore Magazine in 2015, 2016 and 2023. Dr. Zarrabi carries the highest patient ratings in both acute care and primary care settings among his peers. He has also been recognized as a top provider by Medicare, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Kaiser Permanente. For example, Dr. Zarrabi ranks in the top 25% for many of his services, according to Provider Ranking System.
